The Essentials
Interlaken literally means ‘between lakes’ in this case between two of them. The city of Interlaken is not that large but offers a tremendous amount of things to do in the region. From here you can get to Murren, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, Kleine Scheidegg and Jungfraujoch. All very worthwhile to visit if you’re here.
Arriving in Interlaken
Getting here is easy by a multitude of different train routes and by car. I’d suggest a train though since you’ll be able to enjoy the natural beauty of the mountains while you sit in your comfy seat. Using the trains in Switzerland is super easy and enjoyable, see my guide on How to Ride The Trains in Switzerland.
Seeing in Interlaken
Lauterbrunnen
You’ll need to go through Lauterbrunnen on your way to many other destinations in the area such as Murren and Jungfraujoch, and Lauterbrunnen is certainly worth a hop off the train to have a look around. With gorgeous landscapes and adorable traditional Swiss architecture, you’ll find yourself in a place that almost seems unreal. And this is just the beginning.

Mürren is accessible only by cable car, so you won’t find streets of automobiles here, just people and bikes. This is the midway point from Lauterbrunnen and Schilthorn, where 007 films have been filmed and you can find a 007 James Bond museum!
In Mürren you’ll find more stunning beauty and a peaceful, calm environment where you can feel relaxed and enjoy the incredible beauty all around you.
