Carry-On Luggage from AmazonBasics

Normally I don’t do carry-on luggage, I generally find it too much of a hassle to lug the thing around on a layover and don’t like having to worry about it. Usually, I opt for a simple over the shoulder camera bag that holds my laptop, camera, and other useful electronics. This bag also fits under the seat in front of me so if I end up on a flight that has limited overhead storage I don’t need to fret about finding space.

Of course, checking a bag also means I can take a larger bag, and fill it with things I buy on my trip, and I do enjoy shopping.

My next trip though, to Poland, Ukraine and Romania, requires several short flights between cities and my travel companion does not want to wait for baggage after each of these little flights, reasonable.

This prompted me to search for a new carry-on sized roller luggage. After looking at all the common brands and checking my local Winners for a couple weeks, hoping to find something decent and even considering investing in a premium bag from Rimowa or TUMI I decided that since I don’t really plan to use the luggage that much, it wasn’t worth spending too much on, but I still wanted something nice and decent. Impossible right? Nope!

Amazon Basics saves the day.

After exploring my options from Samsonite, American Tourister, Delsey, Rimowa, Tumi and the various makes that show up at Winners/TjMax, I did what any rational person does, I went to Amazon.

The AmazonBasics Hardside Luggage comes in three sizes, 20, 24 and 28 inches, with the 20-inch bing carry-on approved for most major airlines.

Built of scratch resistant ABS material, four double-wheeled wheels and a telescoping handle, as well as a grab handle on the top and side. This compact luggage comes in black, orange and blue, as I was looking for something chic and masculine I went with the black. The simple ribbed design of the luggage keeps things easy and brings only the essentials.

One thing I really liked is that it is expandable, adding an additional 15% to the total capacity of the luggage. Making it possible to stock up on purchases in my last stop before checking the bag for the final flight home.
